NO BIG PICTURE: The Personal Art of Enn Erisalu and Ilana Aloni presents a survey of the artist Enn Erisalu (1943-2005). This exhibition does not give us a “big picture” of Erisalu’s practice, but offers a series of filters to view the extra-ordinary work. Presented alongside his art, this exhibition includes artwork from the joint collection of Erisalu and his partner, gallerist Ilana Aloni. The selected works do not only provide insight into the esoteric nature of Erisalu’s practice, but exemplify how interconnected art making, curating and collecting can be. The exhibition title is taken from one of Erisalu’s notebooks. On one page he declares:

JUST REMEMBER, THERE IS NO BIG PICTURE

Selections from their collection include works by Richard Archwager, Kim Kennedy Austin, Michael Dumontier, Marcel Dzama, Neil Farber, Tom Friedman, Rodney Graham, Andreas Gursky, Jason McLean, Roy McMakin, Meuser, Ken Lum, Andre Petterson, Raymond Pettibon, Bridget Riley, Kay Rosen, Thomas Ruff, Allen Rupersberg, Cindy Sherman, Sylvia Tait, George Stoll, Jeff Wall, and Christopher Wool highlight post-conceptual and post-minimalist practices from places as diverse as Vancouver, Los Angles, New York and Dusseldorf.

The largest part of the exhibition is devoted to the work of Enn Erisalu. It traces the development of his artistic practice from the 1970s to the end of his career with a selection of art work, sketches and notebooks that shows his playful engagement in the history of 20th century art.
