January – March, 2020

Emilie Crewe (b. 1987, Québec City, Canada) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her artwork often takes the form of video installation, single-channel video, multi-channel video and sketch-work (drawings, collections & archives). She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Her work is exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, artist-run centres, experimental film/video festivals, and as public art.

Emilie Crewe is the inaugural recipient of Griffin Art Project’s North Shore Studio Art Residency Award. Open to artists living in the Districts of North and West Vancouver, and the City of North Vancouver, this award serves to recognize the achievements of our local arts community by supporting the work of underserved artists living on the North Shore.

Throughout her time at Griffin, Emilie will be working on a three-channel large scale video installation featuring the prominent Canadian bass trombonist Julia McIntyre. Emilie writes: “With a cache of footage that includes scales, arpeggios, solo music and improvisational melodies, the project will oscillate between experimental documentary and fictional video art”.
