Projects + Class:

Open the Window

Griffin Art Projects is delighted to be kicking off the new year with a special two-day exhibition titled Projects+ Class: Open the Window, featuring the works of eight North Vancouver high school students in grades 10 – 12. Embracing a collaborative, experimental and social engaged approach to art-making, the works in the exhibition were produced under the guidance and mentorship of Vancouver-based artist Kelly Lycan in a hands-on mini-course titled Project+. This course was inspired by David Askevold’s Projects Class, which was originally taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 1969-1972. It was known for its innovative approach to engaging visiting artists with students enrolled in the curriculum. Askevold invited artists to submit projects that he and his students would then carry out. Likewise, in Projects + participating students had the opportunity to carry out projects designed by Lycan and guest artists Lucien Durey and Hannah Rickards.
