Join three Canadian Collectors live over Zoom for an intimate look into their personal collections and the narratives they reveal surrounding Chinese Canadian cultures, communities and histories, both real and imagined. BC-based collectors Catherine Clement and Tom Carter, and Yukon based collector Julie Jai will come together for an afternoon of engaging conversation, followed by a live audience Q/A session. Presented in conjunction with Griffin’s current exhibition Whose Chinatown? Examining Chinatown Gazes in Art, Archives, and Collections, guest curated by Karen Tam, items from each featured collection are currently on view at the gallery from January 29th - May 1st, 2020.
Building on one of Griffin Art Project’s mandates to examine new currents in contemporary collecting practices, Conversations on Collecting is an ongoing series that considers the mythologies, thematics and narratives that shape collecting practices in Vancouver, Canada and beyond.
