Griffin Art Projects is pleased to welcome our first Emily Carr University Studio Residency Award Recipient, Sara-Jeanne Bourget, to our residency studio. Bourget was born in Lévis, Québec in 1988. She obtained her BFA in Studio Arts at Concordia University (2015) and her MFA from Emily Carr University (2019). In 2016, she took part in residency programs in Finland, Quebec and Vermont where she also exhibited her work. She is the recipient of two grants (2017 & 2019) from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation in support of her work and studies.

Bourget writes, “Being granted the Studio Residency Award at Griffin Art Projects is an opportunity for me to expand my art practice in a generative and influential environment. The residency will facilitate the transition between my graduate studies at Emily Carr and my professional career as an emerging artist. I am excited to be working with the dedicated community at Griffin Art Projects and to foster new relationships.” Bourget will use the studio space at GRIFFIN to further develop concepts explored in her thesis project, and create a series of drawings that explore “physical and conceptual interconnections between ‘Rocks, Paper, and Charcoal,’ based on my geological explorations and the inherent materiality of both paper and handmade charcoal.”

Griffin Art Projects’ Studio Residency Award offers a studio space, rent free, for three months to a distinguished recent MFA graduate from Emily Carr University. This residency is intended to support the development of their practice post-graduation, as well as provide opportunities for professional development.
